Level of Work Required

Distance of the Wire Run
The farther the charger is from your electrical panel, the more wire, conduit, and labor is required. A charger installed in a detached garage, on the far side of the house, or in an outdoor parking area will cost more than one installed directly adjacent to the panel.
Underground Work
Some installations require running conduit underground — for example, from a house to a detached garage. This involves trenching, weatherproof conduit, and additional materials, which adds to the overall cost.

Will You Need a Heavy-Up for Your EV Charger?
A Level 2 charger adds one of the largest loads in your home, usually a 50- or 60-amp circuit. Whether your home can take it depends on your service size and what else you run.
- 200-amp service with room in the panel: Usually fine. We add the circuit and install the charger.
- Panel full, service big enough: A sub-panel or panel replacement may be needed.
- 100-amp service, or already running electric heat, a hot tub or a second EV: Often needs a heavy-up to 200 amps first.
